The last story, Knight's Gambit, was particularly rich in capricious literary capers. I will never be a Faulkner fan. But several of theses stories are quite engaging, and the county lawyer is a charming character, so I'm glad I got the book/5(4).

My overall conclusion of the Knight’s Gambit is that most variations can be played (The Quaade is rather playable, for more info on it consult GM John Shaw’s book The King’s Gambit). The Bishop’s Gambit. The Bishop’s Gambit is technically the oldest variation, having first been analyzed by Ruy Lopez de Segura and Lucena. 3. When I looked for a similar book, the best I could find is this somewhat dated work by Jan Pinski. This newer book by Glenn Flear apparently contains 88 pages about the italian, Evan's gambit and two knights. If you have played the Bishop's opening before maybe this is the book for you: It advocates going into the Italian game by 4.

E.E. Knight E.E. Knight is the pseudonym for American fantasy and science fiction author Eric Frisch. He was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and spent his childhood in Stillwater, Minnesota, and currently lives in Oak Park, Illinois, with his family. Knight is best known for his Vampire Earth, a series of fantasy books. Using the Queen’s Gambit Accepted as the main line, this book has suggestions for every possibility, even for the London System and the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit. My edition of William Faulkner's Knight's Gambit is subtitled Six Mystery Stories.I cannot help but think that this is wrong: Faulkner just wasn't into the mystery genre. These aren't whodunits, but rather wry observations of the human condition by a middle aged attorney named Gavin Stevens who is playing the part of a kind of Jedi master to his eighteen year old nephew Charles Mallison/5.

"THE KNIGHT'S GAMBIT" is the alternate history novel of the German battleship Tirpitz, Allied convoy PQ17 and the Battle of Bear Island. In Book 1 of the Malta Fulcrum Alternate History Series, "OPERATION HERKULES", the Axis powers have seized the Mediterranean Knights gambit.

About Knight’s Gambit. Gavin Stevens, the wise and forbearing student of crime and of the folk ways of Yoknapatawpha County, Mississippi, plays the major role in these six stories of violence.

In each, Stevens’sharp insights and ingenious detection uncover the underlying motives. "THE KNIGHT'S GAMBIT" is the alternate history novel of the German battleship Tirpitz, Allied convoy PQ17 and the Battle of Bear Island.

Faulkner has produced in the past some of the most powerful, socially significant experimental writing that has come out of America &#; landmark in literature of the Deep South. But in this latest work Knights gambit. book is aware of a blandness, a flatness that does not permit action to come through in a three-dimensional form.

Dramatic power is cut to a minimum and with it, characterization and clarity. Knight’s Gambit, the novelette that gives this volume its name, is a melodramatic and sentimental piece of trumpery incongruously tricked out in Faulkner’s elaborate late a strange way it travesties, or revises (as if Faulkner, softened by years, were repenting his earlier unrelieved tragic harshness) elements of the story of Candace Compson (“Caddy”) in The Sound and the Fury.

I think this book is wonderful (but then, I am a bit biased). I love good science fiction primarily because it is so rare. This is hard-SF, but I recommend it for people who love a good story first (and consider science a secondary factor).

If you love to read like I do, I guarantee, you will enjoy this book.5/5. The stories in Knight's Gambit are unified by the setting--Faulkner's fictional Yoknapatawpha County, Mississippi--and by the presence of the garrulous county attorney Gavin Stevens and his nephew, Charles ("Chick") Mallison.

Stevens and nephew appeared in the (successfully filmed) novel Intruder in the Dust (), as well as The Town () and The Mansion (), the concluding volumes of Author: The Passing Tramp. We are family-run. We are estate wines. We are solar-powered. We are Knight’s Gambit Vineyard.
